Record of shipments to state and local offices, 1846-1876.

Entries for each shipment made to state or local offices include title and quantity of documents shipped, title and occasional name of official, date sent, and occasional remarks on method of shipment or filing of shipping receipts. Documents shipped included session laws, legislative reports and journals, election registers, equaliztion reports, agricultural reports, and geological reports.

The Office of Secretary of State, successor to the territorial Secretary, was established by the 1818 Constitution to keep both the state archives and a register of the Governor's official acts. The Secretary was appointed by the Governor until the 1848 Constitution made the office elective.
